Davos Dorf

Sunday 11 August

Davos Dorf

We had a bit of a lazy Sunday morning, catching up on a few chores and playing games with the children.  I went to the village with Hannah to see if the 'Bakerie' was open, and it was so bought some crispy fresh bread for lunch.  I took Hannah to the playground and she spent a happy 20 mins or so on the flying fox, and so home for lunch.

After lunch we decided to take the train to Davos and walk around the lake. We walked down to the station and had a lovely few minutes in an almost empty cab with comfy seats, until the ticket collector came in and told us in strong German something about "virsst classen" , so we were ushered out into more appropriate seating with some other lovely families!   Hannah and I sat together and there was an adorable 8 month old baby and his Mum on the seat next to Hannah.  Well, this little baby really wanted to get to know Hannah and although she was a bit shy at first and seemed not to know quite what to do, she soon warmed to him and it was just lovely to see her interacting with him, he reached out to her for a hug and she gave him a cuddle, it was so good to see how she handled this all by herself.  I didn't say anything except to introduce her to the baby's mum as I was curious to see how she would managed the situation and make her own decisions.  She did so well.

When we arrived in Davos we talked to the man in the ticket office about going to St Moritz, he was very helpful and gave us plenty of information about the trip there and about St Moritz.  So we are at least well informed.

We walked around the lake and Jasper was keen to have a go on the paddle boats, shaped on the form of a car.  Fortunately the boats could take 4, so James and the kids set off with Hannah and Jasper at the controls, how trusting!

David, Rachel and I had a coffee while we waited for them to finish, and from a distance we could see that Jasper had decided to take a plunge into the lake.  Not sure what that was about except he felt like a swim!

When they arrived back we had a couple of plates of hot chips for afternoon tea and continued our walk around the lake.  Such a huge lake, and we were half way around when James saw a signpost on a wee path in the bush - pointing uphill to Klosters Dorf and he Jasper and Penelope left us and took a 'shortcut' home. Yeah right, so the race was on.  So the four of us left finished our leisurely walk around the lake, Hannah is not really in to fast walking even though she accepted the challenge, she prefers taking little side walks up interesting steps, and sitting down at inopportune moments when she feels she has had enough of walking.

It did give us some photo opportunities though, so all was not lost.  We arrived back at the station having just missed our train, so with 30 mins to wait before the next one, we decided to purchase tickets on the train to St Moritz for the next day, Monday.

When we eventually arrived home at 6.45 James already had dinner underway, barbequed hamburgers with all the trimmings, yumm.  And, the only reason the 'shortcut' worked this time is because the path they took brought them to a station further down the line, and they hopped on the train that we missed!!
