Klosters an afternoon walk

Thursday 8 August

Klosters - an afternoon walk

We have this wonderful Boulangerie down in the village and Rachel had ordered some gluten free bread, so this morning she and David popped out early for a bracing little morning stroll and picked up the bread and bought some croissants for breakfast.  Heaven, fresh, light as air, buttery croissants with strawberry jam.

Quiet morning, bit of planning, and we took the children down to the playground.  David and I went to the station to check out the train and bus timetables.  We had a day out to St Moritz on the wish list, the train goes through some of Switzerland's prettiest scenery and also goes over the Albula Pass which winds its way over viaducts and through tunnels.  We also have free rides on both local buses and trains within a certain area, so we wanted to make the most of our cards.

After a bit of time spent on our blogs and emails, and after we had had lunch James suggested a walk to Kloster Dorf, he knew of a shortcut.  Rachel and the girls stayed behind, but I was keen for some exercise. So rather than go they easy way down through town, we turned uphill (of course) and discovered there were quite a few houses, all without question, just as pretty as the one we were living in.  We passed one which had a bit of a chicken coup at the side and the cock was crowing just to make the scene perfect.

Then we came across this little road to the left which looked promising, cut through by the side of a few houses and came out on a rough sort of walkway.

Still believing this was a shortcut, we carried on and it led us to the top of a steep field, all green and lush just waiting for some innocent tourists to slip all the way down.  I hung on to James, again, but David took the quick way, fortunately only his pride was hurt and perhaps the green grass stains of his shorts gave the game away.

So I was pondering about how we get back up when James pointed out the way forward, seeing as how we were at the bottom anyway we chose yet another little path between the houses and it brought us onto a road which James recognised from his map as leading down to Kloster Dorf.  All downhill too, so with more confidence we strolled on.  We'd been half an hour getting to this point, it would be another half an hour to get to the cable car, and then we would have to walk back - all uphill.  So David and I had another pressing engagement at a local pub and James and Jasper carried on with their adventure.

The pub we chose was just in the village and was called Fellini's, the local Pizzeria, we had a nice local lager and noticed that their speciality was 'Fondue', so decided to keep that in mind for a family lunch one day.

Rachel cooked a lovely chicken roast, which we had without James and Jasper, they arrived back at 8.00pm.  They had a great walk, up the gondola and across the hills, but it took a little longer than they planned!
